จอประสาทตาเสื่อมเป็นภาวะทางตาที่เกี่ยวข้องกับการเสื่อมสภาพของ macula ซึ่งเป็นพื้นที่เล็กๆ ที่อยู่ตรงกลางของเรตินาซึ่งมีหน้าที่ในการมองเห็นที่คมชัด เนื่องจากบริเวณนี้ค่อยๆ เสื่อมลง อาจทำให้การมองเห็นส่วนกลางลดลงหรือถึงขั้นมองไม่เห็น
